Alright, so everyone knows Team Teamasek Track and Field got 3rd for 400m Hurdles Guys- Axel Maximus Tan and 3rd for 4x400m Relay Girls'- Divya, Rita, Tse Xin and Yu Xin (me!) in IVP; this is according to the relay protocol. Haha.. Anyway, it was really awesome the way we won!
Second victory was the Pol-Ite held in Nanyang Polytechnic AGAIN. Honestly, they got so much more advantage since they can train there everyday. Haha.. Before the race, it rained so I was hoping for the wind not to be so cold and heavy in air resistance. To cut a long reflection short, we got CHAMPION! Haha..
The last victory was the TP Campus Relay where I ran for Darren's Team- SAA Team 1 =) He made it last minute because he called me twice in the morning whilst I was in accounting class and then he texted me when I off my phone. LOL! Rushing down from Sentosa to Simei then back to Temasek Poly is no joke at all. I am greateful to Old Chang Kee for the delicious chicken curry rice whenever I am so impatient to queue up for food. You notice fast food is never really FAST. God. Anyhow, SAA Team 1 consisted of superstars like Yu Xin (me!), Axel Maximus Tan, Rita, Darren, one long distance guy and 2 moer other SAA staff where one was a dragonboater. Haha.. I was the first runner and Yuen Hui wanted me to get first so I did. LOL! (Barney told me later on that he heard the first runner for SAA Team 1 very fast but he didn't know it's me). Well, it was a relay of 1.2km each so we did it below half an hour. Only 3 teams did below half an hour and we are the CHAMPIONS! Principal's team got 3rd. Awesome! I didn't know out principal is a marathon runner =)Anyway, I kept screaming when I knew we were first!
Not bad huh? A Gold medal on Wednesday (pol-ite) and then Friday got a another Gold medal (TP Campus Relay)! These are the three hypothesis that have been tested out and proven affirmative.
1. "Aim for 1st and we will get 3rd." This hypothesis was born a few minutes before the 4x400m relay Girls' during IVP Day 2. And indeed, we came in 3rd! Now there's a bonus theory involved for the 1st runner, you can take it if you want to. "Either come back 1st with a HUGE lead or don't come back 1st at all."- given by the 2nd runner because she was afraid that she will lose the lead and let the team down. A kickback of this bonus theory: The Team will not blame anyone for the rank no matter how poor the performance is. But the perception of getting blamed and feeling stressed about it adds on to the pressure given to the runners and it BOOSTS PERFORMANCE because hey. the Team is counting on you! Whoohoo! I wanna thank my Team here again =) I am a great anchor. Thanks for weighing down on me ^^
2. "No pressure, just get 1st." This hypothesis was born during the strategy before the Pol-Ite 4.6km. Honestly, this hypothesis is a rare one. You can keep saying that but you know in your heart, it is highly impossible unless you are really good. And even though the chance is small, TP got that chance and we are glad of it =) So definitely, this proven theory will stick in my head ever =D
3. "First ah? Okay okay! No problem! Haha.." Now this was born seconds before the campus relay started at the finishing line. I know it is rather proud in a way but I would say it is a mixture of self-confidence and visulization that is verbalized. I mean, you gotta visualize the outcome that you want right? To me, that's important. No point running a race half-heartedly or just settling for some random position when you know you have every chance as fair as anyone else to get 1st. With a goal, you would feel more secure and your mind is locked on so it makes you focus. Even when you don't achieve that rank or timing, you still feel good about yourself because it was a 100% in that race. Add that little 1% for visualization and you most likely achieved a personal best too =)
These proven hypotheses are from me and no one else. Even Coach laughs when she hears of such but hey, if it works fine for you, I think it's great! I am currently testing out a new one when Coach said she wanted us to be Champions again. " Coach, how about we let 1st runner come in first and all of us three runners come in 2nd together?" Haha.. Coach is delighted and replied with a " I like your strategy, Nicole!" though we never proved that in Pol-Ite. YET.
