Review of Cold Storage Kids Hunt 2009!!

This is the second assignment of SGRunners.com Bloggers. Even though it was done on a voluntary basis, I made many new friends and even took a picture with Mr. Alexander Duric- Singapore's national striker in football! It was very happening in Novena Square and kids were seen holding luminous green balloons with given out by Cold Storage's mascots!

Here is the review of the event! Enjoy!

Review of Cold Storage Kids Hunt 2009 on 7th March 2009

By Tan Yu Xin Nicole (in representation of SGRunners)

Singapore, 7 March 2009- Having fun while learning simultaneously is the most effective way for both parents and kids! Cold Storage has brought the fun back to eating right by holding a Kids Hunt at the Cold Storage Novena Square on March 7.

In line with the Health Promotion Board’s “Eat 2+2” and Cold Storage’s “Eat Your Colours” schemes, the Kids Hunt allowed the young children to explore more about the wide varieties of fruits and vegetables that are essential for healthy growths. 20 children were seen scrambling around the outlet as they attempted to complete their tasks of identifying the correct mix less than 5 minutes. Parents, whose kids were aged 2-6, raced along with them. The deejay maintained the energetic atmosphere The Kids Hunt serves as a launch to kick off the Cold Storage Kids Run 2009 that will be held on 24th May 2009 at the Padang in the Marina Bay precinct. The mascots of Cold Storage, 2 kiwis and a green apple, followed the teams and supported them, making other kids happy and the cameras flashing away happily! National Team Captain Indra Sahdan and Striker Alexander Duric commenced the Kids Hunt with ther adorable kids!

The organizers of the Cold Storage Kid Run 2009, which will be in its second edition this year, have introduced two new categories for the younger participants. It gives them the honour of being the first sports event that is open to kids as young as 2 years old! Singapore is going to have young national athletes in the bright future!

Andy Wee, who has a two year old son, is delighted to learn about this unique kids running event. “I think it is great that my son Anson can take part this year. It’s a fun way for me to bond with him and to start him early on sports.”

Andy plans to sign his son up for the non-competitive race category for kids aged two to four. The shortest route is 700 metres.

"At Cold Storage, we believe in promoting the health and well-being of the Nation and there’s no better time to begin than from young,” Cold Storage CEO Choo Peng Chee stated. He added “In line, with our aim to promote healthy living, we are sponsoring the Cold Storage Kids Run to give children a fun and meaningful lesson on eating right and living well.”

Interviews were conducted with various competitors and of course, not missing Singapore’s national striker in football, Mr. Alexander Duric and his son, Alessandro, who is 4.5 years old and daughter Isabella who is 6.5 years old!

“It was very hard, having to search around Cold Storage for the items. But the kids found it fun to run around,” Duric said when asked how they felt after the run. He strongly agreed that this event will instill a healthy lifestyle in his kids’ growth as it will “teach my kids to eat healthily.”

Both kids added in unison with a big “YES!!!” when questioned if the Kids Hunt was enjoyable.

Morgan Siow Rui Sing, 20, from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, who was guiding the mascots to walk around, was pleased with this event as it was very useful. “Yes! Parents will now know the various kinds of food leading to a healthy intake. Also, they can teach the kids how to eat healthily since most kids have no idea what they are eating nowadays.”

Chua Beng Woon, 20, from Ngee Ann Polytechnic, playing the green apple mascot, said the event was great as it “promotes branding (of Cold Storage) and increases the kids awareness to eat healthily.”

Ms. Tan May Fong, 40, a housewife, and her daughter, Elise Teo, 6 were competing in the Kids Hunt. “It’s a good way to exercise and if the parents do it together with their kids, it would be better and they can learn at the same time!”

All in all, the Kids Hunt 2009 has been a huge success with the presence of national footballers like Alexander Duric! Laughter filled the air and everyone was a winner. If parents and kids would like to participate in this great bonding opportunity, registration for the Cold Storage Kids Run 2009 is from 5 March-26 April 2009.
