There are not many flash mobs in Singapore, or at least not in the heartlands of Orchard. But on that very Sunday, CAN! Volunteers did a flash mob from 4-6pm - The Blobby Stomp! Blobby is the cartoon spokesperson for the Singapore 2010 CAN! (Create Action Now!) Festivals, a systematic series of youth and community initiatives lined up to celebrate Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Blobby is a purple character with the readiness to create action, cored with a youthful fun factor. As the spokesperson, Blobby will help to announce and publicize CAN! events on the CAN! website and printed materials to encourage people to create action now for Singapore 2010.
I was a volunteer to be a Blobby Stomper and it was just a choreographed dance moves that attracted eyes and intrigued glances from the passer-bys. Outreach initiatives are another group of volunteers that took every chance and opportunity to create awareness and explain the details of the upcoming event- CAN! Discover to the passer-bys. CAN! Discover is the opening marquee event of the quarterly Singapore 2010 CAN! Festivals that is organized by We Are Different! (W.A.D) club, a youth initiative of Harvest Care Centre.
What to expect in the CAN! Discover:
- W.A.D!'s Next Race (amazing race around central Singapore)
- W.A.D! In The World (world culture booths set up by embassies and international schools)
- Scape Visout (an interactive art installation)
Details of CAN! Discover:
- Date and Day: 18 April 2009, Saturday
- Time: 2pm - 7pm
- Venue: Scape Youth Park (nearest MRT: Somerset)
- What to expect: Fun and knowledge of YOG 2010! Limited collectibles of CAN! Discover! Attractive prizes to be won!
