Nike Run Club SG

Singapore (1 April 2009) Just Do It and that was exactly what Nike Run Club SG did! Nike offered the first group of runners a unique sporting experience with the launch of the Nike Run Club SG, the first running club to be conveniently established in the heart of Orchard Road. Sounds like an April's fool joke? No joke. The free platform calls upon new and seasoned runners to come together every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month to run a 5km route through the bustling Orchard, starting and ending at Nike's Flagship store at Wisma Atria.

"As running has become an increasingly popular sport in Singapore, we have identified that there is a demand amongst runners for a convenient and safe training hub that can help them to improve their training regime," said Mr. Stanley Goh, Country Director, Nike Singapore.

"The Nike Run Club SG represents our commitment towards serving the athlete in every active consumer as this will be a platform where runners of all abilities can connect and share their passion for the sport." added Mr. Stanley.

There were many runners when the run started. Local celebrities such as Julian, Jessica Tan; local elite athletes such as Vivien Tang, Sumiko Tan, Jeanette, Mok Ying Ren were present too! Of course it was a whole new experience for me because how often do you get to work out with elites? I was asked to try out the new Nike Free 5.0 and boy, was I surprised by it's immediate effect on my feet!

The run started from Nike's Flagship store. Spencer and I ran and controlled the pace for the group. Through pavements and traffic junctions, we ran into the Singapore Botanical Gardens and went uphill, took a few photographs and then went downhill again. While heading out to the entrance of the amazingly serene place, a car accident happened. But luckily, no one was injured. So, runners please do look out for the traffic every time you cross the road and remember to slow down your speed. We ran back to the store and got our cans of Milo and towel! Flashes were blinding and everyone was happy. Apparently, this event has had a great turn-out and was successfully! I made many friends too and hopefully, in the future, there will be more meeting up for socializing between us, runners!

"Being part of the Nike Run Club SG elevates the running experience for me. Having participated in many runs and having trained for triathlons and competitions, this training run is unique for me because t is held in the heart of town and connects me with both new and seasoned runners a well. It becomes like a fun run in the city and makes the sport so much more connected and exciting!" says national triathlete Mok Yin Ren.
