The Northface 100km Pre-Race Party on 30.06.09

Firstly, I would like to apologize for the late post on this. But anyway, The TNF 100km is here again! I was invited to The North Face Pre-race Party along with Sukaimi : )

About the North Face
Some of you may not know about this store. I admit I wasn't too clear about it too. Initially, I thought TNF stands for Track N Field! Sorry about my ignorance. The North Face is a division of VF Outdoor Inc., founded in 1968. The company offers the most technically advanced products int eh amrket to accomplished climbers, mountaineers, snowsport athletes, endurance athletes and explorers. The company's products are sold in speciality mountaineering, backpacking, running and snowsport retailers, premium-sporting goods retailers and major outdoor specialty retail chains!

In Singapore, The North Face is located in The North Face Store, #01-023, Suntec City Mall Galleria. The telephone number is 6334 1568.

The North Face 100km
The TNF 100km is an ultra marathon and is to date the toughest race in Singapore. Most races are about speed but for this particular rce it is more on the endurance. TNF 100k is part of a global series of The North Face endurance races, which includes the legendary Canadian Death Race and the Ultra-Taril du Mont Blanc, where athletes tackle the most grueling trails, highest mountain summits, river and canyon crossings. TNF100km Singapore is one-leg of the 5 country Asian Series.

This year, The Northface have 2 new categories: A 100km solo, which is a maiden race in Singapore, and a 50km duo whereby two partners do 25km each. There are several progressive runs lined up. If you are interested, you may train with them: )

The Northface 100km is tough, challenging and will push the runner to the limit. 40% of the runners did not complete the 50km race within the 8 hours cut-off time last year. Thus, a training program has been put together for this year's athletes. Women's-only categories for the 100km Duo and 50km Duo have also been introduced to encourage more women runners to participate in the race. Men and mixed teams will participate in the Open category. Progressive Run clinics have been scheduled every month and participants are highly encouraged to take part in these runs to familiarize themselves with the trails and gather running tips from The North Face athletes and their partners. In addition, an online running log has been set-up so athletes can check their mileage and that of their partners.

The North Face 100km Athletes Team
Esther Tan, Kenneth Koh, Leow Kah Shin and Mohammed Sharrif are in the TNF Team!!! They will be training together with the other runners in the progressive runs and give valuable, irst-hand advices! HP, North Face's partner will be bringing in Tim tweitemeyer, 5 time champion of the US Western States 100 mile race, to run the 100k challenge : )

The North Face Race Information
-Event Date: 24 October 2009, Saturday

-Registration can be done online from the 1st July 2009 to 25 September 2009 in http://www.thenorthface100.com.sg/ .

-Cateories:
1. 100km Solo- BY INVITATION ONLY! Open category: both men and women.
(early bird: S$180; normal: S$220)

2. 100km Duo- Open category: for men or mixed teams.
And woman category: for women only teams.
(early bird: S$180; normal: S$220)

3. 50km Duo- Open category: for men or mixed teams
And woman category: for women only teams.
(early bird: S$110; normal: S$140)

-Venue: The race will start and end at MacRitchie Park. THE EXACT ROUTE WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL UNTIL 1 WEEK PRIOR TO THE EVENT.

-The 100km Solo

1. THIS IS A BY-INVITATION ONLY RACE.

2. Athletes who would like to be considered for the 100km race SHOULD submit an application BEFORE THE 10TH AUGUST 2009.

3. Only 20 of the best athletes based on timings will be selected in the 100km challenge. Successful applicans will be notified on the 15 August 2009.

4. RUNNERS NEED TO HAVE COMPLETED:

(A) 84KM ULTRA MARATHON WITHIN 10 HOURS.
(B) 50KM THE NORTH FACE 100 WITHIN 7 HOURS.
(C) OTHER 100KM RACES IN LESS THAN 17 HOURS.
(D) COMPLETION OF ANY OFFICIAL RACE >100KM

(*)Standards apply to all running surfaces, roads and trails.

Pre-Run Activities
The progressive runs are on:

11 July- 10km
29 August- 20km
26 September- 30km
21 October- 7km

Registration fee of S$8 for registered TNF athletes and S$12 for guests.

Race Kit collection will be done at the race expo: 17 October at Novena Velocity. The exact details will be sent to participants.
